(Un)bound

I was prompted by a friend and patron to create a self-portrait to celebrate the imagined one-year-anniversary of the death of patriarchy. At first, images of Jeanne d’Arc with a sword held over her head came to mind, but, then it struck me that patriarchy will not be defeated by way of war.

This shoot is a result of an improvised exploration of an abandoned building in Zehlendorf, Berlin with photographer Jay S Laffat—while contemplating the above challenge.

All battles are first won or lost, in the mind.

—Jeanne D’Arc

In the stillness of the mind, I saw myself as I am; unbound.
